SCANZ2015:water*peace-call

Water is essential to survival, revered and respected worldwide for its power, curative and creative abilities. Water as a resource has become intensely politicised and monetised, in contrast to the view that access to fresh water is a fundamental human right. Peace is also essential to the sustainability of humans on Earth. Join us to discuss and put forward positive, connecting views on water and peace that engages our communities. This is the first call for projects.

scanz2015:water*peace-call

SCANZ2015: water*peace will be the fifth SCANZ residency. It will commence with noho marae (overnight stay) at Parihaka, world renowned as a site of peaceful protest. The stay coincides with the 18th and 19th, where leaders of the peace movement Te Whiti and Tohu are celebrated. This will be followed by a two week residency, a day of public activities, temporary projects on a walkway, night time projections on buildings, online exhibition and SCANZ hui on the final weekend of the residency.

media art project selected

A project that uses a laser light to carry sound has been selected as the Intercreate Media Art Project 2014. Ko Tatou Te Tangata by Stuart Foster and Kura Puke, with Dr Te Huirangi Waikerepuru and Te Urutahi Waikerepuru, uses an oscillating laser light to carry the human voice.

SCANZ-Balance-Unbalance

As part of our Balance-Unbalance presentation on Solar Circuit Aotearoa New Zealand, where we will discuss issues around engaging with science and indigenous peoples, we are wanting to subvert the usual arrangements for presentation.

We would like the audience to download our presentation images to their mobile device. We will then not require the use of a projector with it’s directional emphasis, will be able to sit in a circle, and we will also be able to leave the room and go for a short walk all as part of our presentation.

Themes: water*peace

Developing the culture to create a sustainable civilisation is important to Intercreate. Acknowledging the environmental crisis, engaging with Maori and indigenous peoples and engaging with Sciences and the Hybrid Arts are important values. SCANZ 2015 is themed on Water and Peace. Water is essential to survival, revered and respected worldwide for its power, curative and creative abilities; while running water is also found in the heritage of digital media. Peace too, is essential to the sustainability of humans on Earth. Join us then for SCANZ2015:water*peace beginning January 18th 2015.

media art projects

These projects are open to Aotearoa New Zealand artists here and abroad.
